The Right To The City is often a rallying cry and an appealing abstract idea. But how do we enact it? What does it look like in practice? Where can we look for inspiration? In today’s era of fragmented governance and nationalist sentiments, cities have become the beacons of a global, progressive renaissance. In this line of research, we explore new and exciting new urban politics in cities around the globe and put them in conversation. Whether we are talking of new forms of participation, new social movements, or new political formations, we are interested in how these reflect conceptions of a right to the city, their potentials and limits. We are especially interested in broadening today’s discussion to include experiences from Latin America, Asia, and Africa. We seek to be a node of conversation on this issue, bringing together scholars, activists, practitioners and elected officials in public programming, research, and outreach activities.
